Ingredients

For the cranberry syrup:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3-inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 lemon, zested

For the drinks:

  • Ice
  • 200 ml bottle whiskey

Directions

Add the water, cranberries, sugar, cinnamon stick, rosemary, salt and lemon zest to a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Lower the heat and simmer until slightly reduced in volume and thickened to a syrup. Remove from the heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. Discard the solids. Refrigerate until cool, about 30 minutes.

To make a drink:

Put a handful of ice in a drink shaker along with 1 1/2 ounces of whiskey and 1 tablespoon of the cranberry syrup. Shake gently a few times and strain into a glass. Repeat for the remaining drinks and serve.

This is seriously delicious. I've made it the last couple of years and look forward to making it again this year. I make a triple or quadruple batch and keep it in a covered jelly jar in the fridge. While I'm not a brown spirits drinker, I made sure to try it as written. I have to say that it's equally tasty in vodka and gin. You can determine the right amount of syrup to use. P.S. makes the kitchen smell wonderful. :

Absolutely fantastic! Hubby is the whiskey drinker but I even liked this one. I used the strained cranberries and rosemary in my dressing.

I plan on making this for Thanksgiving but I'm most excited about the suggestion of the two reviewers above me. I'm definitely going to keep the strained cranberries, what a great idea! I'm glad I read that. Thanks 'makeupgal' and 'monicamarie78'!!
