Looking for shopping, entertainment and some tasty food? Rachael recommends Fort Lauderdale, Fla.'s, Swap Shop. With a drive-in theater, circus, outdoor farmers' market and flea market with over 2,000 vendors, this Florida complex has been a must-see for tourists and locals alike since 1963.
Even the fishermen of Monterey visit Cafe Fina for the freshest catch in town. Known for sand dab - a locally caught fish that's breaded in cracker meal and lightly fried - Fina's specialties of the sea, pastas and grilled meats are rivaled only by the serene tableside view of the harbor.
While looking for breakfast in Orlando, Fla., on $40 a Day, Rachael skipped the tourist traps and checked out Lacomka, a bakery and deli that specializes in authentic Russian specialties like borscht and stuffed cabbage. Rachael quickly fell in love with the blinchiki, which are Russian blintzes.
Rachael called Bamboo Restaurant "a relaxed, inviting spot," with its gift shop, nightly entertainment and selections of fresh meat, seafood and Asian specialties. Check out the lineup of small plates, or "pupus." Rachael was all about the Bamboo specialty, Chicken Satay Potstickers.
The locals escape the hubbub of downtown at Woody Creek Tavern. About six miles outside of town, it's an off-the-beaten-path quirky dive with tons of charm. The kitchen offers plenty of pub-style snacks and meals if you're hungry, and the fresh-squeezed blue agave margaritas are not to be missed.
Designer Vanessa Noel opened the Vanessa Noel Hotel in 2002 as the first boutique hotel in Nantucket, Mass. Inside the hotel is Cafe V Bar. Rachael was enchanted with this cool hotel, ''hip bar,'' and ''sexy'' shoe shop in one where ''you can shop, have a cocktail, then take a nap.''
Known for its incredible burgers and funky decor featuring a wall of beer cans to a bull's head, Grumpy's is a local favorite in Ketchum, Idaho. Grab a burger and beer or try the Rachael-approved Fowl Burger, a teriyaki chicken sandwich, "marinated just right," with an order of crispy fries.
What better way to admire the sunset at Hilton Head, S.C., than with a sunset martini from the Old Fort Pub? When Rachael tried this beautiful drink on $40 a Day, she thought it was ''heaven.'' This tavern is also well known for its she-crab soup, which many consider the best soup in the area.
A Denver favorite that calls itself "the affordable French restaurant," Le Central offers the tastes of Provence with an always-changing menu incorporating the freshest ingredients around. Try a selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes for what Rachael calls "country cooking at its best."
Head to Paddy O'Neill's, located at the Hotel Alex Johnson, where Rachael stayed during her visit to Rapid City, S.D., for a $5 lunch special, dinner or pint of craft beer. The menu includes a variety of Irish and Midwestern classics while the bar offers entertainment from local bands and a jukebox.
