Ingredients

4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

2 tablespoons brown sugar

Zest from 1/2 lemon plus 1 teaspoon lemon juice

10 caramels, unwrapped

2 Granny Smith apples, sliced

1 Gala apple, sliced

2 teaspoons sprinkles

1 cup potato chips, crumbled, optional

Directions

  1. Mix the cream cheese, brown sugar and lemon zest and juice in a bowl until smooth. Transfer to a plastic bag and snip the corner to make about a 1/4-inch opening. Set aside.
  2. Add the caramels and 1 1/2 teaspoons water to a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring, until the caramels are melted, 4 to 5 minutes. Arrange the apple slices fanned out and overlapping on a plate. Squeeze the cream cheese-lemon sauce on top. Drizzle the warm caramel over the apples and cream cheese sauce. Garnish with sprinkles and potato chips if using and serve immediately.

Cook’s Note

Other possible toppings include chocolate chips, melted white chocolate, cinnamon sugar and pretzels.
