Ingredients

For the Simple Syrup:

1/2 cup sugar

For the Cocktail:

2 tablespoons freeze-dried raspberries or strawberries

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Kosher salt

2 ounces Mezquila

1/2 ounce Cointreau

2 ounces fresh lime juice

1 ounce strawberry puree, thawed if frozen

1 ounce simple syrup

Strawberry slice, for garnish

Directions

  1. Make the simple syrup: Bring the sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve. Let cool completely; store in the refrigerator.
  2. Make the cocktail: Finely crush the freeze-dried berries and mix with the sugar and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Moisten the rim of a glass with water, then dip in the berry salt. Fill the glass with ice.
  3. Combine the Mezquila, Cointreau, lime juice, strawberry puree and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very cold, 10 to 15 seconds.
  4. Strain the drink into the glass and garnish with the strawberry slice.
