As another reviewer noted, the mayo is out of place here. This is glorious as a northern European flavor bomb. Without the mayo it's a wonderful reminder of the herring sandwiches sold by street vendors in Amsterdam. Use a small sub roll, or heavy dark rye, or other bulkie bread. Excellent 3-season treat, it's a bit heavy for hot summer days.
