Home Made Tortillas

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons lard

1/2 to 3/4 cup lukewarm water

Directions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt in a glass bowl with hand. Add lard to dry ingredients, mix with hand. Add lukewarm water to form dough into ball. After forming ball, rub dough ball with a little lard. Put ball in plastic bag and let rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. Flour rolling surface and then pinch off balls of dough between index finger and thumb and shape into mushroom like balls. Set aside.
  3. Take each ball and pat each side on flour surface, roll out into flat round tortilla, cook on comal or griddle turning only once.

My mother showed me how to make tortillas at age 12 ,with hand measuring they came out to stiff,So i tried again they crumble; so i gave up. it was so hard to find a recipe that was close to hers. since her passing 12 years ago....I have searched and found it .......thank you
