Ingredients

Nonstick cooking spray, for the baking sheet

6 tablespoons buttermilk powder

4 teaspoons garlic powder

4 teaspoons onion powder

1 tablespoon dried chives

2 teaspoons dried dill

1 teaspoon dried parsley

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon sweet paprika

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

8 tablespoons (1 stick) salted butter, melted

1 tablespoon light brown sugar

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 cup corn cereal squares

1 cup rice cereal squares

1 cup wheat cereal squares

1 cup thin pretzel sticks

1 cup salted and roasted mixed nuts

1 cup pita chips

1 cup bite-sized cheese square crackers

10 cups store-bought popped popcorn

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray.
  2. To make the spice mix, whisk together the buttermilk powder, garlic powder, onion powder, dried chives, dried dill, dried parsley, dried oregano, dried basil, paprika, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the butter, sugar and mustard until combined. Set aside.
  4. Add the cereal squares, pretzel sticks, nuts, pita chips and cheese squares to a large bowl. Add all but 2 tablespoons of the melted butter mixture and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle with all but 1 tablespoon of the spice mix and toss to combine.
  5. Spread the coated cereal mix onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes, until toasty and crispy, about 50 minutes.
  6. When the mixture comes out of the oven, pour the popcorn into a large bowl and toss with the remaining butter mixture and seasoning mixture. Add the toasted cereal mix and mix thoroughly. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

This was a tasty alternative to traditional snack mix, but I prefer the original. The recipe makes a very large amount and doesn’t save well due to the popcorn, so definitely make for a party or large group gathering!
