Ingredients

Decorations:

3 ounces good-quality white chocolate, melted

White Chocolate Hot Chocolate:

2 cups whole milk

1 cup half-and-half

1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste

1 cup good-quality white chocolate chips

Canned whipped cream, for serving

Ground nutmeg, for serving

Directions

Special equipment:
a piping bag
  1. For the decorations: Put the melted chocolate in a piping bag and snip off a tiny hole at the tip. Pipe lacy chocolate designs, slightly larger than the cups you're using, onto a baking mat or a piece of parchment paper. Allow to set completely.
  2. For the white chocolate hot chocolate: Add the milk, half-and-half and vanilla bean paste to a saucepot. Place over medium-high heat, heating the mixture until the edges begin to bubble. Remove from the heat, then stir in the white chocolate chips. Let sit for 1 minute. Transfer to a teapot or heatproof pitcher.
  3. To serve, top each mug with a white chocolate decoration. Slowly pour over the white chocolate hot chocolate, allowing the decoration to melt into the cup. Top each serving with whipped cream and a pinch of nutmeg.
