Santa Fe Hot and Spicy Chili

Ingredients

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, chopped small

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

1 pound Italian sausage, casing removed

1 pound ground beef

2 teaspoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons chili powder

2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons black pepper

2 (16-ounce) cans kidney beans

2 (16-ounce) cans diced tomatoes

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet and saute onions until translucent. Add garlic and saute until it begins to turn golden brown, being careful not to burn it. Add sausage and ground beef and cook until the meats are brown. Drain off any fat. Season with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add beans and tomatoes and simmer 30 minutes.

Great base recipe for chili. I use this recipe all the time. I add to and adjust to my taste but adding the sausage adds a great depth of flavor and I really like this recipe as a base.
