skip the grilled onions and use chopped white onions, sport peppers, tomato, bright green relish, kosher dill pickle, celert salt, yellow mustard only, and nothing other than a vienna dog on a steamed poppy seed bun. Save the grilled onions for the polish sausage but that's a whole other conversation...moment of silence for Maxwell Street.
Salsa does not belong anywhere near a vienna dog, you should be ashamed of yourself. :^

I don't know where all these people come up with their variations but, after 70 years of eating Chicago Hot Dogs I can set you all straight.
Bobby got it right except for 3 things.
1. Use chopped white onions. Not grilled!
2. The Vienna hot dogs are steamed, Definately not grilled or boiled!
3. The peppers must be sport peppers.
