Ingredients

  • 1 slice bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

Use a 3-inch cookie cutter to cut a shape out of the bread. Melt the butter in a griddle or frying pan. Place the bread in the pan and break an egg into the hole. Lay the cutout shape in the pan wherever it will fit and toast until golden brown. Sprinkle the egg with salt and pepper.

When the egg is cooked on the bottom and before the bread becomes too brown, flip the egg nest to toast the other side and finish cooking the egg, about 1 minute. Serve with toasted shape.

My family loves this recipe. My mother always made it for me, and I make it for my son and he loves it. My family makes a hole in the bread always using a shot glass. We melt butter, cook bread till brown, then turn over, crack egg in the middle of hole and cover for about 1 - 3 minutes on low so you dont over cook the bottom of the bread and the egg sets. Yum.

My mom made this recipe for me when I was kid and always loved it! Now my son loves taking the buttered circled and dipping it into the yolk, it converted him from being a scrambled egg kid to loving his eggs cooked over medium! If you don't have cookie cutter just use a glass!

I made this as just an experiment and it ended up being a favorite with my family. Plus its really easy. And I'm only 14 years old.
