Ingredients

  • Assorted shelled nuts (almonds, cashews, peanuts, etc.)

For sweet and spicy nuts:

  • Peanut oil, for drizzling
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Chinese five-spice powder, to taste

For savory nuts:

  • Peanut oil, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Chili powder, to taste

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

For a sweet and spicy nut, toss your choice of nuts with oil, sugar, salt and a few dashes of Chinese five-spice powder.

For a savory and spicy nut, toss your choice of nuts with oil, salt and a few dashes of chili powder.

Lay out the nuts in an even layer on a baking dish. Bake, redistributing the nuts every 7 minutes or so to make sure they cook evenly, until the nuts are lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes.

    Burned Nuts

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
This recipe's instructions are vague. The time to bake is inappropriate as the nuts burned before the "seven minute" check... point. Choose another recipe!Read more

    Not so spicy

Not impressed with this recipe. The nuts burnt and did not hold the spices and appealing flavor I expected.

They were just not what I expected and others didn't seem to care for them.

    not what i thought

they were good for snacking, but not what i thought? I thought they would have more flavor, but the flavor was mild. Still... good though. I would eat them if they were in front of me.Read more

    Not so very impressed

I agree with the reviewer who said the temp was too high. Mine started burning about 15 minutes into it. If I was to try... this recipe again I would lower the temp. of the oven. Not as much flavor as I had hoped for but I'm willing to take responsibility for that one. I'll add more chili powder or try other combinations. For some reason my husband did like them.Read more

Love the spiced nuts. For a little extra kick, I added a little cayenne pepper.
