Ingredients

  • 4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 2 cups sliced almonds
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup good honey
  • 1 1/2 cups small diced dried apricots
  • 1 cup small diced dried figs
  • 1 cup dried cherries
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup roasted, unsalted cashews

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Toss the oats, coconut, and almonds together in a large bowl. Whisk together the oil and honey in a small bowl. Pour the liquids over the oat mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until all the oats and nuts are coated. Pour onto a 13 by 18 by 1-inch sheet pan. Bake, stirring occasionally with a spatula, until the mixture turns a nice, even, golden brown, about 45 minutes.

Remove the granola from the oven and allow to cool, stirring occasionally. Add the apricots, figs, cherries, cranberries, and cashews. Store the cooled granola in an airtight container.

    The BEST Granola...Works Every Time

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I have made this granola several times using sliced almonds and no part of it has ever burned. You must take a large spatula... and toss it every 10 minutes or so to get the underneath areas exposed to the heat so it "evenly" browns. I bake it at 350, but I do only let it go for about 35 minutes(but this will depend on your oven). I pull it out when it is a uniform light golden brown. It is wonderful with the ingredients in the recipe but you can also add whatever dried fruit you have on hand. The final product has a moist texture(not your typical boxed crunchy kind) and it only gets better after a few days. It is really good on greek yogurt with honey on top.Read more

    Do not follow the recipe

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
I am one of those people who feels like if a recipe is on Food Network it should work. Well...I followed the recipe except I... used whole almonds and no coconut. I only cooked for 30 mins and it is burned. I think maybe 300 degrees for 20 mins would work better.Read more

    i knew it would burn

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
When i saw the recipe, i knew the nuts would burn. Then I read the reviews and turned the oven down to 300. I also saw many... references to the oil content after assembling my ingredients, so I added a big handful of extra oats. It turned out OK, but next time, Alton Brown. I know his recipes are tried and true. This experience makes me miss the OLD Food Network years ago. You know, when it was more about the recipes and less about entertainment. There has to be a balance here. How can such obvious flaws in recipes continue to make it to the web-site and on the shows? Maybe a lttle less time with the background music and wardrobe, and a little more time on the reason the shows exhist, the recipes.Read more

    Healthiest yogurt topper

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I love this granola on yogurt or as a take along snack in the car or hiking. It keeps well and makes an awesome gift. This... Christmas I am packaging it in saved jars, covered with labels that are copies of drawings my kids made. It's a simple, hand-crafted, non-sweet gift that I think my friends will enjoy. I have never had a bad Ina recipe and don't think I ever will. If you haven't made her turkey meatloaf, try it. Makes an awesome tiny foccacia sandwich with radiccio and garlic mayo for parties.Read more

yum, yum. I used half quantities which was loads, and used agave nectar instead of honey. I used the basic oats, coconut... and almonds with oil and agave but added different fruits and nuts.Read more
