If you’re trying to decide between two party favorites, why not mash them up? That’s exactly what Ree does in such situations, and these wontons are the perfect example, whether you’re serving adults at a game party or teenagers at a sleepover.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chuck steak and the onion, then cook, stirring from time to time, until browned and cooked through, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and mix in the jalapeños, ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside.
Grab a small bowl of water and lay out a few of the wonton wrappers. Scoop a teaspoon of the meat mixture and place in the center of a wrapper. Top with a small pinch of the Cheddar. Dip your finger in the water and wet two connecting edges of the wrapper. Fold the dry edges over the meat to join the wet edges, creating a triangle, and seal by pinching the edges together tightly, pushing out as much air as possible. Set aside and repeat with the remaining meat, cheese and wonton wrappers.
When ready to fry, heat 1 inch of oil in a high sided pan to 375 degrees F.
Fry the wontons in batches, turning halfway through, until golden and crisp, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve with the dipping sauces alongside.
