Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti noodles
  • 1 pound sweet turkey sausage, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
  • 2 (28-ounce) cans diced tomatoes with seasonings (green pepper and onion or garlic and oregano, or any flavor you want)
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons dried rosemary
  • 1 (15-ounce) container regular or part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 4 cups grated part-skim mozzarella cheese, reserve 1 cup, for topping
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside. Meanwhile, cook sausage in a hot skillet over medium heat until golden brown on all sides. Add tomatoes, thyme and rosemary and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and garlic powder and mix well. Spoon 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce in the bottom of a 4-quart casserole dish. Top with half of the cooked ziti. Top with half of the cheese mixture. Top with 1 cup of the tomato sauce. Repeat layers (remaining ziti and remaining cheese mixture). Top with remaining tomato sauce. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese over top. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes, until cheese is golden and bubbly.

    Awesome!!

My kids loved it, my husband loved it. Will make again. People should make the receipe before reviewing it. The cheese... doesn't need eggs, it holds the ziti together. Was amazing. This is also a great basic receipe that you can add things to. I add simple things like onions for the kids, and had a potluck and took this, and added mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini and needless to say, there was not any leftover. You do need to drain the tomatoes a little.Read more

One reason people aren't liking the resutls

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
I read the actual recipe and then watched the video. The recipe says to use 1 pound of ziti and add the remaining... ingredients. This should say 2 pounds of ziti. She made 2 casserole dishes in the video and froze one. She also made a 3rd box (pound) for a pasta salad recipe on her show. These are the types of inaccuracies that can cause failure in a recipe and it's no fault of your own, but a lot of time and effort wasted. My mom always told me that recipes on the web and in magazines are sometimes not right because the written word isn't correct. Read more

This recipe is fabulous and what I love is that the ingredients are all easy and in my kitchen already. Wish I would have... read the reviews first and added fresh basil and mushrooms. I love the idea about freezing half. I love Robin Miller and her fresh easy and economical recipes. Read more

nicely spiced, easy to prepare and filling

This meal looked good as Robin prepared it on her show, and tastes even better. I added a thawed, drained box of chopped... spinach to the ricotta mix and cooked 1/2 lb of portabella mushrooms w/ the sausage. The recipe as shown split to fill two 8x8 inch glass baking pans - one for now ( with leftovers) and one to freeze for a smaller family. Read more

    Delicious!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this recipe in a large casserole dish and my family loved it! I found it funny that some people thought the recipe... was too dry, while others thought it was too saucy! It was great as is and it serves an army! I appreciate modern spins on traditional recipes that cut down on the preparation time. Let's face it, many of us work outside the home full time and don't have the time to spend hours getting dinner ready.Read more
