Ingredients
4 cups chopped peeled ripe fruit, such as melons, peaches, nectarines, mango and pineapples or berries (see Cook’s Note)
4 cups cold filtered water, plus more as needed
1/4 cup honey, or to taste (see Cook’s Note)
1/2 cup loosely packed mint leaves
Juice and zest of 2 limes
Directions
- Combine the fruit, water, honey, mint and lime juice and zest in a blender and blend until smooth. If needed, add more water to move things in the blender. Strain through a mesh strainer into a pitcher and discard the solids. This will remove excess pulp. Taste and add more sweetener if needed
- Serve the agua fresca over ice. The juice may begin to separate after time, but it can be stirred again before serving. Refrigerate any leftover agua fresca for up to 3 days.
Cook’s Note
Look for seasonal fruit, which will have the best flavor while keeping costs down. Thawed frozen fruit can be substituted for fresh fruit. The honey can be replaced with your preferred sweetener. If using sugar, I recommend making a simple syrup to better dissolve in the agua fresca. To do this, combine a cup of water and a cup of sugar in a small pot, stirring to dissolve. Bring to a boil and then turn off the heat. Let cool completely before using and store any leftover syrup in a sealed jar.
