This is my go-to recipe for delicious sloppy joes! The depth of smokiness from the cumin makes for such an earthy, unexpected smoky layer of flavor that totally elevates it from your standard sloppy joe fare…but still totally recognizable as a ‘sloppy joe!’ If need be, you can cut back somewhat on the cumin, if you’re not a fan. You definitely need some of it in there, though. All in all, just a great super-easy recipe. And the longer you let it simmer on low, the better the sauce becomes. I sometimes add chopped green bell pepper. My husband likes it with jalapeno peppers. You could even add chopped carrots and/or celery. It is a fun recipe to play around with, as long as you keep the basic flavor profile in there. But even making it just as the recipe states with no deletions or subtractions, I highly recommend this recipe. The flavor achieved by so few ingredients is off the charts!
