Directions

  1. Thinly slice a baguette; arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush with softened butter and sprinkle with salt and sugar. Bake at 425 degrees F until lightly golden, about 7 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  2. Spread softened butter on the toast rounds. Top with peach preserves and crushed amaretti cookies.

Easy, looks good, and tasty. I wanted more instructions, but I guess this recipe is pretty forgiving. Except the first time I slightly burned the bread under a broiler. What I did the 2nd time, per 3/4" slice - <div><br /></div><div>1 tsp cold butter, melted on by 20 secs in a microwave</div><div>a pinch (1/8 tsp each ?) salt and sugar</div><div>2-3 mins in a toaster oven til golden</div><div>1 T peach preserves</div><div>1 tsp cookie crumbs (one small cookie)</div><div><br /></div><div>More butter might be better. This seems ideal for about 8 not-very-hungry people, about 2 slices each, to use up the whole baguette before it dries out.  Thanks !</div>
