Ingredients

3 pounds smoked Gouda

Buttermilk, for coating

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon paprika

Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

Special equipment:
a deep-fryer
  1. Cut the Gouda into long 1 to 1 1/2 ounce sticks. Have a bowl full of buttermilk, and a second bowl with the panko, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika. Coat the Gouda in the buttermilk, then place in the dry breading. Repeat the process: buttermilk, then dry breading. (This is considered double-breaded.) Place on a sheet pan and freeze for a minimum of 1 hour, or up to when you are ready to cook them.
  2. Heat a deep-fryer with the oil to 350 degrees F and cook until golden brown and the cheese is just peeking out, 3 to 5 minutes. Enjoy!
