Ingredients

Ice

1 1/2 ounces gin

1-ounce saffron simple syrup, recipe follows

1-ounce fresh lemon juice

Splash club soda

Lemon peel, for garnish

Simple syrup:

2 cups water

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon saffron

Directions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with some ice. Add gin, simple syrup and fresh lemon juice. Shake. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass and top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with a lemon peel.;

Simple syrup:

  1. In a sauce pan over high heat, combine all the ingredients. Bring to a boil, and when sugar is fully dissolved remove from the heat. Let cool for 20 minutes, then strain.

This drink is delicious. The lemon, saffron and gin make a great combination. Plus the drink is a beautiful pale orange color. I wouldn't try it if you don't really enjoy the flavor of saffron. I made the saffron syrup with a sugar substitute and it was fine. It would be great with Thai or Indian food.
