Barbequed Mini-Meatballs

Ingredients

1/2 can evaporated milk

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1 cup quick cooking oats

1 egg, slightly beaten

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 cups Neelys BBQ sauce, recipe follows

Neelys BBQ Sauce:

2 cups ketchup

1 cup water

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

5 tablespoons light brown sugar

5 tablespoons sugar

1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper

1/2 tablespoon onion powder

1/2 tablespoon ground mustard

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients. Mix well with hands. Shape into the size of walnuts and place in a single layer in a 13 by 9-inch pan. Pour Neelys BBQ sauce over meatballs and bake for 45 minutes. Remove and serve with toothpicks as an appetizer.

Neelys BBQ Sauce:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine all the ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cooked uncovered, stirring frequently, for 2 hours.

Amazing...I don't understand what others meant when they said spicy. There isn't even a spicy ingredient in sauce and the meatballs only call for a tsp of cayenne. Anyway, AMAZING recipe all around. I have made The Neely's BBQ Sauce for years now. Great for all sweet and sassy style southern recipes. Add a bit of liquid smoke and less of the sugars for a smokier version. I've used and not used the oats in the meatballs. Wonderful both ways. I think it's the milk that makes the magic.
