Spice Wizard's Sweet Herb and Jack Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

1 cup chopped yellow cooking onion

1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper

1 tablespoon pre-crushed garlic

1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar

2 tablespoons dry parsley

2 teaspoons course ground black pepper

2 teaspoons dry oregano

2 tablespoons dry mustard powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon dry rosemary

1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon whole cloves

1 tablespoon chili powder

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon virgin olive oil

1/2 cup Jack Daniels Old #7

1 (24 ounce) bottle ketchup

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients but the Jack Daniels and ketchup into a food processor. Mix together until well ground and blended. Add the Jack Daniels and the ketchup. Blend again.
  2. Mixture is ready for use.

Cook’s Note

Freeze unused portion for longest shelf life. Mixture won't freeze solid at normal freezer temperatures.

This sauce is great and goes very well with chicken. It also works very well as a marinade. I typically add a little more brown sugar or some molasses to make it sweeter.
