Am I the only one who thinks the proportion of dried fruit in this recipe is way off?? My oatmeal didn't taste like oatmeal; it tasted like fruit compote. The texture was fine, and I didn't have any problems with scorching, but the oatmeal turned faintly reddish purple and tasted strongly of dried fruit. On the upside, I didn't have to use any additional sweetener, so at least that was a healthy bonus. But as someone who loves the taste of oats, I wish the final product tasted more "oaty."

This was so easy & so good. I changed the half & half to whole milk and added some chopped walnuts and a bit of cinnamon. GREAT way to start the day!!

I go with the measurements for the oats, water, and milk and then I add brown sugar, real vanilla extract, real maple syrup, and raisins. I give the interior of the crock a good coating of non-stick spray before I put anything in it - then no scraping off burned/congealed oatmeal the next day. My crockpot is pretty high powered so even the "low" setting is too high for all night, and it's not programmable. I always get up at least once anyway in the wee hours, so I just turn it to "keep warm" 2 - 3 hours before I'm going to be up for the day and it cooks just fine.
