Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 cups watermelon, seeds removed
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 cups vodka
  • 2 ounces melon liqueur, optional
  • 8 lemon twists, for garnish

Directions

Bring the sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan and cook until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let cool.

In a food processor, puree the watermelon flesh. Add a little of the sugar syrup to sweeten, to taste. Pour the pureed watermelon into 2 empty ice cube trays and freeze for at least 4 hours.

In a blender combine the frozen watermelon cubes, more simple syrup, to taste, lemon juice and vodka, melon liqueur and blend until smooth. Pour into 8 frozen martini glasses and garnish with a lemon twist.

    Anyone Substitute?

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
We would rather have a light wine instead of the vodka. Anyone try a substitute or have a suggested chilled wine to use? It... is watermelon season again! Alyson www.alyzabethan.blogspot.comRead more

    Delicious and Refreshing

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
Loved making these. As a previous reviewer wrote, great way to use up extra watermelon. Great flavor and not watered down,... since the "ice cubes" don't use water. I'll make this one again.Read more

    Addicting!

Went to a dinner party and our hostess made this for us. It was so refreshing! Lots of prep but definitely worth it.

Much better than a two star!

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
We were surprised to fiond that this drink was only rated at two stars. We found this drink very easy to make, very... refreshing on a summer evening, and also very pretty. We did add a sprig of mint for garnish. Also, it is a great way to finish that large watermelon that is just a little too big for the family.Read more

Could never make this at a busy bar.

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
Nice recipe but I have worked as a bartender and this would never work in my bar. Too much prep time and work involved.
