Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 cups water, plus more as needed
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 24 lemons)
  • Lemon wheels or wedges, for garnish

Directions

In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, honey, and 2 cups water and place over medium-high heat. Cut the vanilla bean in 1/2 lengthwise, then, using the back of the knife, scrape the vanilla seeds from the pod and add to the saucepan, along with the pod. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 4 or 5 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture thickens. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.

Put the lemon juice into a gallon jug or pitcher. Pour the sugar syrup through a strainer into the pitcher and discard the pod. Add water to equal 1 gallon and stir well.

Serve over ice with lemon wheels or wedges.

    Way too sweet

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I've been making my own lemonade, but wanted to make a bigger batch, so I used this to check proportions. I used 1/2 the... amount of sugar and honey this recipe calls for and it STILL just tastes like a sugary sweet drink. I can't taste lemons at all! What a waste of all the time and energy of juicing the lemons when you can't taste them.Read more

Yummy! Had to make a couple substitutions though

Love this lemonade! I didn't have the vanilla bean, so I used 1 tsp vanilla extract. And instead of sugar, I used Splenda. ... The honey makes the difference. I also increased lemon juice to 3 cups. ( i had to replace what I taste tested out of the gallon and thought it could stand to be bit tarter.) Am taking it to a peach ice cream party tonight and I don't know anyone there. Will see how many ask for recipe.Read more

Refreshing, good taste and easy. Hardest part was juicing the lemons. Will make again.

Made this for our first bbq last weekend. I doubled the recipe and there wasn't an ounce left! Great to see 16 kids... drinking this instead of pop! Highly recommend....Read more

Other than what I mentioned in the title, it has been a HUGGGGGE hit at a party and with my family and friends!
