Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 slices raisin bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup prepared apple pie filling
  • Powdered sugar, for garnishing, optional

Directions

In a large baking dish, whisk eggs, milk, and cinnamon. Set aside. Place the bread slices in the egg mixture. Let soak until the egg mixture is completely absorbed into the bread, turning over occasionally, for 1 to 2 minutes. Heat a griddle over medium low heat. Add the butter and melt. Cook the bread on the griddle until brown and heated through, about 2 to 4 minutes per side. Make 2 sandwiches with the bread and apple pie filling. Cut each sandwich in half. Transfer to plates and serve with additional butter. Top with powered sugar, if desired.

I've made this using homemade sauteed apples. I place the sauteed apples in between the bread to make a sandwich...then I dip the sandwich in the egg mixture and then fry the sandwiches in a pan! Its so very good!

Somehow that didn't seem right and it wasn't. The sandwiches were sickeningly sweet and heavy and the apple pie filling was just plain gross. I know I won't be making this again.
