Ingredients

  • 6 ripe avocados
  • 3 limes, juiced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, smashed then minced
  • 2 serrano chiles, cut into rounds
  • 1 big handful fresh cilantro with stems, about 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Halve and pit the avocados. With a tablespoon, scoop out the flesh into a mixing bowl. Mash the avocados using either a fork or potato masher, leaving them still a bit chunky. Add the remaining ingredients, and fold everything together. Drizzle with a little olive oil, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper and give it 1 final mix with a fork.

Lay a piece of plastic wrap tight on the surface of the guacamole so it doesn't brown and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

    Way too much lime.

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
I was really surprised when I tasted the end result. Never having made guacamole before I didn't know that juice of 3 limes... was a lot. The major taste in this guac was the lime, it overpowered everything else. I took it into work and asked everyone's opinion and about 8 people said too much lime, and 1 person said it was good the way it was. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed.Read more

    Big hit with the kids.

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this last night with ultimate tacos. The kids almost ate it all with tortilla chips before the meat was even done. I... grated the onion so the kids didn't know it was there and used a half a pepper so the kids would be able to eat it. A nice alternative to adding tomotoes too. Read more

    Excellent!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this to top Sunny Anderson's steak fajitas and this was the best guacamole I have ever had! I made it exactly as the... recipe stated, except I substituted jarred banana peppers for the serrano peppers. This guacamole has such a clean fresh taste. My husband even ate it and he HATES guacamole!! Thanks for another great one, Tyler!Read more

    Really good guacamole!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
In the past when my husband and I have made guacamole, we just get the guacamole mix. However, not long ago we had some... friends over and I decided that I was going to actually make guacamole dip with fresh ingredients and not the mix. I am so glad I did because we all loved this dip!Read more

    helpful guac tip

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This is a great recipe. Thanks Tyler. Also, I learned a great tip from a friend from Puerto Rico- after you mix all the... ingredients together, put the avocado pit in the middle of your guac and it will keep your guac from turning brown. It totally works! Make sure to press saran wrap flush against the dip until serving also. Read more

    guac hater converted

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this recipe for my husband's birthday party last week. He declared that even though it was an unusual recipe, it was... the best guacamole EVER and that he wanted me to make it just like that from then on. I had several guests telling me it was the best guacamole they had ever had as well. Even though I hated guacamole, I got curious and decided to give it a try. I couldn't stop eating the stuff, it was SO good. I will make this over and over again. Thanks Tyler!Read more
