Passion Fruit Sangria

Ingredients

2 bottles dry white wine

3/4 cup brandy

1/2 cup Triple Sec

3/4 cup simple syrup (equal amounts sugar and water heated until sugar dissolves and cooled)

3/4 cup passion fruit puree

2 cups fresh orange juice

3 oranges, sliced into thin rounds

3 green apples, cored and sliced thinly

2 lemons, sliced into thin rounds

1 cup blackberries, washed and sliced in 1/2

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or up to 2 days. Serve over ice with pieces of the fruit.

We made this sangria to serve at a luau party as we love passionfruit flavor. I find the recipe as written with the ingredients I could find to sweet and orange juicy for my taste - still good just the orange was over powering. If I was rating it on as is I would give it 3 stars. With the following tweaks it is a 5 star for me: In place of the passionfruit puree (couldn't find the real thing and we are in LA) we used Das Frutas Passionfruit concentrate (undiluted) which is readily available in latin markets. We found it in the condiment section not with the fruit juice. In place of the orange juice we used Ceres Passionfruit Juice (all natural - passion fruit and pear juice) which i found at Cost Plus World Market. I cut back just a little on the simple syrup and only used oranges and lemons for fruit. I tripled the recipe but not the fruit amount. We made the day before and then added fresh mint leaves the morning of. It was a HUGE hit!
