Blackberry-Lime Margarita

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups blackberries, plus more for garnish

3/4 cup silver tequila

3/4 cup superfine sugar

1/3 cup orange-flavored liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)

2 teaspoons finely grated lime zest, plus 1/3 cup fresh lime juice (from 4 limes)

Mezcal, for topping (optional)

Directions

  1. Combine the blackberries, 2/3 cup water, the tequila, sugar, orange liqueur and lime zest and juice in a blender. Blend until smooth and the sugar dissolves.
  2. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl or liquid measuring cup, pressing it through with a rubber spatula. Churn in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer?s instructions until thick and slushy.
  3. Pour into glasses and top each with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon mezcal. Garnish with blackberries.

These were delicious! I did not follow the recipe exactly. I used a stick blender to mix everything and drank it pulp, seeds and all over ice.
