Ingredients
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
One 8-ounce tube refrigerated crescent dough sheets
6 sticks part-skim mozzarella string cheese
Pizza sauce, for serving
Directions
Special equipment:
a 3-compartment hot dog and sausage pie iron- Build a campfire.
- Add the Parmesan, granulated garlic, oregano and crushed red pepper flakes to a small container and mix to combine.
- Unroll the dough on a clean work surface and sprinkle with the cheese mixture, pressing it into the dough so it sticks. Cut the dough in half crosswise. Open a 3-compartment hot dog and sausage pie iron and drape the dough, cheese-side down, over 1 side of the pie iron off center, with half of the dough covering the iron and the remaining dough off to the side. Put 1 cheese stick in each compartment and fold the remaining dough over to cover. Pinch the sides closed and attach the other side of the iron.
- Cook over the fire, flipping often, until the dough is golden and the cheese is melted, about 6 minutes (depending on the heat of your fire). Carefully unmold and cut along each seam. Serve the mozzarella sticks warm with the pizza sauce. Once the pie iron has cooled slightly, repeat with the remaining ingredients.
