Ingredients
1 tablespoon Spicy Salt, recipe follows
3 ounces tequila
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur
Spicy Salt:
1/4 cup kosher salt
Finely grated zest of one lime
1/4 teaspoon ancho chile powder
1/4 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
Combine the salt, lime zest, ancho chile powder and chipotle chile powder in a small bowl.
Simple Syrup:
1 cup sugar
Combine the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. (Alternatively, heat in the microwave.) Let cool. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Directions
- Put the Spicy Salt on a plate. Dip the rim of a chilled margarita glass into the mixture to coat the edge. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, lime juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Strain the margarita into the prepared glass.
