Sidecar

Ingredients

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus more for rimming glasses, plus 4 skinny lemon peels

1/2 cup pink sanding sugar 

8 ounces good cognac 

2 tablespoons superfine sugar 

4 ounces orange liqueur, such as Grand Marnier 

Directions

  1. Five minutes prior to serving, fill 4 champagne coupe glasses with ice. When ready to serve, dump the ice and rub the rims of each coupe with lemon juice. Rim half of each glass in the pink sugar. In a cocktail shaker add the cognac, superfine sugar, orange liqueur and lemon juice.
  2. Add 1/2 cup crushed ice. Cover and shake vigorously. Use the strainer and pour equal amounts into the coupes. Garnish with the lemon peels.

Jonathon, this is one of the best recipes for a Sidecar.  I know this, 'cuz I'm the Sidecar Diva in my family.  My ex-hubbie introduced me to these 30 years ago.  My favorite cocktail of all time!!!  I had all of these ingredients at home already, and used your recipe, which was different from what I had been using.  This now replaces my old one, and into the new one.  Absolutely sublime.
