Sunny's Gin and Juice Spritzer

  • Level: Easy
  • Yield: 4 servings

This is a classy and updated way to make a gin and juice cocktail. The simple syrup mitigates the herbal notes of the gin and makes a smooth drink. Whenever I make a strong drink at home, I finish it with the same spritz of sparkling water I’ve shared here.

Ingredients

Syrup:

Zest of 1 orange

1 cup fresh orange juice

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

Drink:

6 ounces gin (I like Tanqueray or Beefeater for this recipe)

Orange-flavored or plain seltzer or sparkling water, to top

Directions

  1. For the syrup: In a small pot over medium-high heat, add the orange zest and juice along with the brown sugar. Cook, stirring, until the liquid is reduced and thickened to a syrup. Remove from heat, strain out the zest and chill the syrup. Refrigerate up to 1 week in an airtight container.
  2. For the drink: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice, add 3 to 4 ounces of orange syrup and the gin. Shake vigorously, then pour into 4 ice-filled glasses, leaving 1 inch of space at the top. Add some bubbly water to each. Gently stir and serve.

Omitted making the syrup. The brown sugar would have made the drink too sweet for us. Combined the orange juice with gin (Hendrick’s) and seltzer. Refreshing & Delish!
