Spicy Margarita with Jalapeno and Ginger

Ingredients

2 tablespoons sea salt flakes

Zest of 1 lime, 3/4 ounce lime juice plus 1 lime wedge

1 teaspoon minced jalapeno 

3 slices fresh ginger (each the size of a half dollar)

2 ounces blanco tequila (white or silver)

3/4 ounce orange liqueur, such as Cointreau 

1/4 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows

Simple Syrup:

1 cup sugar

Directions

  1. Crush together the sea salt flakes and lime zest in a small bowl. Rim a margarita glass by rubbing a lime wedge around the edge of the glass and then dipping it in the lime salt.
  2. Muddle the jalapeno and ginger with a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Then add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and Simple Syrup. Shake and strain into the margarita glass filled with ice. 

Simple Syrup:

  1. Heat the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool. The syrup will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
