Since 1918, Wayside Restaurant — a landmark for honest, Yankee fare — has been a classic joint for a slice of maple cream pie, a sumptuous pie laced with maple syrup. Another standout is the Thursday special: crunchy, peppery fried strips of salt pork with a thick, mild milk gravy. The dish has even been recognized in the culinary hall of fame of the Tunbridge World’s Fair, which takes place each September.
