On Wednesday, May 22, Guy Fieri became the third chef to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He joins Chef Bobby Flay and Chef Wolfgang Puck on the fabled walk. On hand to help honor Guy was his family, actor Matthew McConaughey and a few of his Food Network family members.

In a moving speech, Guy’s oldest son, Hunter, who hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps, took the stage to praise the way Guy always put family first. “What you see is what you get,” said Hunter, calling his father, “My best friend, my mentor and my idol … Thank you for being the only star we ever need to meet.”

Next, actor Matthew McConaughey, Guy’s long-time friend, took the stage to relay his experience with the Food Network star. A few years back, McConaughey was traveling around the country in a motorhome when he became a fan of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. He called up Fieri one day to ask him where to eat. From there the two started a friendship and would later meet in real life. McConaughey mentored Guy on his new-found fame while Guy cooked and helped McConaughey discover new places to eat. He praised Guy for not being a food snob and maintaining his authenticity throughout his rise to fame. “He didn’t have to play a part,” said McConaughey. “He was the character. You really haven’t changed who you are. Authenticity. In a business where you can be anyone you want to, you’ve been you.”

Finally, Fieri took the mic to reflect on his amazing rise, recalling how he used to drive down the road the Hollywood Walk of Fame is on years ago. Having a star on it “wasn’t even in the dream world,” he said. Fieri attributed his success to all the great people around him, “my army of great people and great friends." Finally, he said, “Thank you to the residents of Flavortown.”
