Oprah Noticed Avocados Got Super Expensive — and Bought an Orchard
Well, that’s one way to handle the situation.

Everyone knows guac is extra — inclduding Oprah, apparently. But the way she is handling it may be a touch different than how many of us might. On Wednesday’s episode of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, after host Trevor Noah asked her what parts of her glamorous life are still normal, Oprah shared she loves avocados.
OK, that’s pretty normal. Everyone loves avocados. But wait, there's more.
“I will tell you several things, very normal. I travel with my own bread and I bring my own avocados,” she said, before adding, “I have an avocado orchard.”
This, of course, is where her normal story got “not” normal.
“The story got not normal, Oprah!” Noah responded.
“I think it’s ridiculous to pay for avocados!” Oprah said.
“Which is why you bought your own orchard? Are you kidding me? That is not a normal story! ‘I make my own avocados because they’re too expensive,'” Noah laughed.
We get it (sort of). With supermarket avocados costing up to $3 each with a very limited shelf-life, we'd buy an orchard too. You know, if we could.
This isn’t the first mention we’ve heard of Oprah’s orchard, she shares it on her social media pretty often, actually. In 2013, she posted a photo with a basket of avocados and a bowl of figs, captioning: “Today’s special. avocados #greatguacamole and figs. Gonna chop the figs and cook in oatmeal #delicious #harvestday.”
In 2015, she shared another photo of her posing with a basket of avocados, writing, “First rose in my garden this year. Signs of Spring. New beginnings.”
While we love the idea of Oprah tending to her avocado orchard, we don't necessarily see that as a sign of how “normal” she is, or the average person’s response to the rising price of avocados. Like, perhaps instead of buying an orchard, just buy avocados on sale?
Celebrities…they are (not) just like us…
