Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoons Neelys BBQ seasoning, recipe follows
  • 2 tablespoons Neelys BBQ sauce, recipe follows
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon sliced fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Directions

Mix in all the ingredients until smooth. Cover and chill for 1 hour to meld the flavors.

Neelys BBQ Seasoning:

  • 1 1/2 cups paprika
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 3/4 tablespoons onion powder

Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir until combined. Keep in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Neelys BBQ Sauce

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 5 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.

Yield: 3 1/2 cups

    Love it! I think it's a great recipe and is perfect. Perhaps awebargain4yoo should have read the recipe first. It's clear on the amounts in advance, so I don't see why one would complain about that. Don't fix it if it's just for one recipe.

    It was simply too sweet tasting for me. Other people might like it. But, for us it has too much of a heavy sweet barbecue flavor. After one taste I ended up tossing it in the garbage. The "The Barbecue Seasoning" was a challenge to put together. All 3 ingredients are dry but in such huge quantities! I'm trying out a recipe here. I'm not interested in making a large bulk amount of the Neelys Barbecue Seasoning that will probably never get used again. I took me 30 minutes to scale down the quanities to just simply TSP and TBS amounts. It would have been nice to have both options. For large quantities and small intended for just one recipe.
