These bundles can be easily prepared on an outdoor grill or in a hot oven.

Total Time:

4 servings

  • 1 1/2 pounds asparagus spears, trimmed 4 to 5 inches long tips
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • A few grinds black pepper
  • 4 slices center cut bacon or pancetta
  • Chopped chives or scallions, optional garnish

Preheat oven, if using, to 400 degrees F.

Lightly coat asparagus spears in extra-virgin olive oil. Season the asparagus with black pepper. Take a quick count of the spear tips. Divide the total number by four. Gather that number of spears and use a slice of bacon to wrap the bundle and secure the spears together. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

To grill, place bundles on hot grill and cover. Cook 10 to 12 minutes until bacon is crisp and asparagus bundles are tender.

For oven preparation, place bundles on slotted broiler pan. Bake 12 minutes.

I pierced the bacon with a toothpick to hold the bundle together before roasting in the oven.
    Delicious asparagus.
I made these last night and my family was very impressed! My kids ate them all before anything else on their plate and then asked for more! I never knew bacon tasted so good with asparagus! Definitely a keeper!
Made this for Christmas sit down dinner. It was a hit. I used a thick cut bacon which increased the cooking time by 5 minutes.
Excellent recipe. We cooked ours on the grill and did not bother with a garnish.
I was all set to put these on the grill when the rain started. So I shifted to the oven. Although the asparagus was done in the time allotted, the bacon was nowhere near done. So I crisped it up on the stove top and it came out great. Can't wait to try it on the grill with the hope that the bacon will crisp up better.
i was a big hit with my cousins, aunts, uncles and other realitives
I am not an asparagus lover however, this came out delicious on the grill. great make ahead.
My husband and kids loved this.I did add a little sugar on the bacon as recommended by some other reviewers ... great idea! But I think the time is a little off. I par-cooked the bacon and the asparagus first, then made the bundles. After 15 minutes in the oven, they still did not look done, so I put them on the grill for a few minutes while the steak was cooking. The bacon got crispy and the asparagus got a little char .... and there were no leftovers! Will definitely make again.
I did this for Easter dinner and everyone loved it. I did steam the asparagus for about 15 minutes before I started to make sure it was well cooked.
The recipe was delicious as is, but since I'm from Wisconsin, I felt compelled to add some more calories to an otherwise healthy vegetable. I sprinkled a pinch of brown sugar on top the bacon during the last three minutes of cooking time. Amazeballs!
Very easy to do & very tasty! I will do this again on special occasions. It's a bestseller! Thanks Rachael Ray!
Awesome - my standard recipe. I add Hollandaise Sauce on top and what a delicious and rich side.
Great tasting!! I had followed another reviewers tip and cooked the bacon to take the chill off and till it started to get slightly wavy. I also used frozen asparagus spears and threw them in the leftover bacon grease to unfreeze them for about 5 min. and then followed the reciped as followed. 5 stars!
This is definitely a dish I would make over and over again. I've made it last week for my family and they totally loved it. I made it together with those recipe I got from Gourmandia sites.. Glad that I found it. :
My husband is on a very low sodium diet (kidney failure, so we only use bacon for something special -- and then it's low-sodium, low fat turkey bacon (not like real bacon, but not bad. I, too, pre-cooked the bacon a bit, and used the oven instead of the grill. Definitely a good side dish; this time I served it with a swiss cheese (only moderately salty and mushroom omelet. Another time I made it for a girl-friends' luncheon with a fancy macaroni and cheese casserole. mmmmmm!
Great, but pre-cook the bacon and then wrap it around the asparagus. This way the bacon is cooked and crisp! Great idea and will do this again soon.
    Everyone love them!
    Great recipe!
    So good and so easy
I tried these on the grill like a few others mentioned. Its not a good idea, I will say i have a cheap gas grill so its hard to control the temp. Even so i put these on the top rack and they still caught on fire. Had to pull them off while the bacon was still raw just to save the dish. The flavor however seemed like it would be good if done in the oven which I will try next time.
This recipe was out of this world phenomenal! Everyone at dinner was blown away with how delicious this was. I am definitely going to be making this again, and soon.
I made this as a side for a Valentine's Day meal and it was so easy and yummy! Next time I will coat the tips of the asparagus more so they don't get as crispy.
    Very easy to make and very tasty too! This is how I get my bf to eat asparagus. Wrapping it in meat! ;
This was really good. All I had on hand was the pre cooked bacon that you still need to crisp up in the microwave, so I parboiled the asparagus for less then a minute before wrapping and then baked as normal. There is only two us us now so I tried to freeze 4 serving parboiled with the bacon wrap. Hope it tastes as good but I doubt it
I thought this was a solid starter recipe, but it could certainly use an extra punch. I like highly-flavored food, so I added a bit more salt and some cayenne. I also used thick-cut pepper bacon, which was AMAZING; however, if you choose to do this, the cooking time will be more like 20 minutes in the oven. Yum!
I thought this was a good idea and tasted good but could be better with more seasonings. I like more flavor than salt and pepper. Greek seasoning would be a great added flavor!
It's True- Everything's better with bacon! Terrific recipe. I've also done this with fresh green beans, and sometimes add a little drizzle of BBQ sauce on bundles before roasting. Very yummy.
I love Bacon and I love Asparagus! I can't wait to try it! But from reading it, it sounds delicious! :
Made this for a weekend family bar-b and we started eating them off the grill. So good! Excellent pairing. The kids couldn't get enough. Have a feeling this will be a go-to for future grilling. Thanks!
