Ingredients

1/4 ounce Aperol

1/4 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows

1/4 teaspoon clove powder 

Splash blood orange juice 

4 1/2 ounces champagne 

Grated orange zest, for garnish 

Simple Syrup:

1 cup sugar

Directions

  1. Add the Aperol, Simple Syrup, clove powder and blood orange juice to a champagne flute. Top with the champagne, then use a bar spoon to slowly pull up the ingredients from the bottom. Lightly grate some orange zest on top of the cocktail and serve.

Simple Syrup:

  1. Combine the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. Keep covered in the refrigerator up to 1 month.

This was delicious! I used the spirit of the recipe and I have larger flutes, made the following modifications: <div><br /><div>I doubled the Aperol, simple syrup and omitted the clove powder (this was per drink). Clove powder was omitted as I had clove simple syrup on hand from another cocktail. You can easily make using the recipe/steps above with adding 2 teaspoons of whole cloves to the simple syrup *after* the sugar has melted and you've removed from the heat. Let cool then strain. This adds a complexity to the drink vs. the dried cloves (helps with the color also). You can also use for other Winter cocktails! </div></div>
