Spiked Earl Grey Lemonade

  • Level: Easy
  • Yield: 11 to 12 servings
  • Total: 6 hr 30 min (includes cooling time)
  • Active: 20 min
This fresh, sweet, and tangy lemonade infused with Earl Grey is definitely a more exciting take on tailgate cocktails than the usual cast of characters like toddies and small-batch microbrews. In fact, it is ideal for any sporting event. Serve it chilled over ice and garnished with fresh cucumber slices. Store the ice separately and add to the drinks as you pour the lemonade out. You can also make lemonade ice cubes to enrich the drink even more, or garnish with fresh mint leaves or even lime slices for variety. You can also use store-bought lemon juice to save time.

Ingredients

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

9 Earl Grey tea bags

2 cups (16 ounces) vodka

1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice (from about 9 large lemons) plus 1 lemon cut into 1/4-inch wheels

1/2 hothouse cucumber, cut into thin rounds

Directions

  1. In a medium pot, bring 6 cups water to a simmer over medium heat. Remove the pot from the heat, then add the sugar and stir to dissolve. Add the tea bags. Let the tea steep until dark brown, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags. Refrigerate the tea until chilled, 1 to 2 hours.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the tea with the vodka and lemon juice, stirring to blend. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours. Stir again before serving.
  3. Add ice cubes to highball glasses. Pour the spiked Earl Grey lemonade over the ice, then garnish with the lemon wheels and cucumber rounds. Serve immediately.
