Is it blasphemous to declare New York’s best breakfast sandwich to be anything other than a bagel with cream cheese and lox? Perhaps. But the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich at Union Fare bakery and gastrohall demands our attention. Why? Just look at it. This sweet and savory flavor bomb scores high marks right out of the gate by using a gooey housemade cinnamon roll as its foundation. It’s then layered with Cheddar, apple sausage and two butter-basted fried eggs. For the finale, it’s topped with a bacon glaze made from powdered sugar, apple cider vinegar and bacon fat. It's sticky, sweet, salty and definitely a fork-and-knife kind of sandwich; it’s also perhaps the most-inventive breakfast sandwich in the five boroughs.
