Are Avocado Marriage Proposals an Idea Worth Toasting?
People are saying yes to presenting sparkly diamond rings in avocados instead of regular boxes.
Nothing says I love you like an avocado with a diamond in it. That seems to be the thinking behind what may be a new trend in marriage proposals.
Furthering the status of avocado as a lifestyle choice, and not just, you know, a food you eat, people are using avocados in lieu of ring boxes for marriage proposals — a craze spotted by the website Extra Crispy and verified on Instagram. (#avocadoproposal, y’all.)
“Tag someone who should propose like this,” Amsterdam-based food stylist Colette Dike challenged her followers on her Instagram page Food Deco.
Apparently people did.
“lawtonliz@maryellenudo you’re the 12th person to tag me in this photo. How do I evaluate what that says about my life lol,” wrote one commenter.
At least she was still laughing.
Oh, sure. Some are making fun. Others (like this person and this person) are putting the idea into action. And plenty of jewelry stores and media outlets have hopped on the wagon and inserted sparklers into avocados of their own. (See here, here, here, here, here and here.)
This guy used a rather mushy-looking avocado. And this guy employed one that appeared far more firm.
Either way, it looks like swapping out that pit for a carat or two is an idea that’s time is ripe. Just maybe bring a few napkins to wipe off the smushy green residue.
