You don't have to make a cake from scratch to impress Dad this Father's Day. All you need is a box of cake mix and a can of beer to do the trick. Follow along as our resident baking expert Sarah Holden teaches how to make a Can o' Beer Cake in her class on the Food Network Kitchen App.
Don't be tempted to use the can of beer that's been sitting in your pantry since last year. Sarah explains each type of beer provides a different flavor profile due to the type of yeast used and the brewing temperature. For this recipe, Sarah uses a lager (which is brewed at a colder temperature) for a crisp, grain-like flavor as opposed to the "fruity" flavors of an ale (brewed at a warmer temperature).
The best part is that this recipe is easy to change and personalize. So if Dad's a chocolate lover, use chocolate cake mix instead of yellow and a chocolate milk stout or porter that Sarah says "will be so delicious."
Tune into the class for more tips and tricks, like the secret to making this cake super moist and what kind of bowl to cut down on prep time, and make Dad's day.
