Fathers come in all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds. Some fathers are blood, some are chosen. Some are grandfathers, uncles, or siblings — and some are that person who has 'fathered' you through a poignant part of your life: a coach, a teacher, a coworker. However you define the father in your life, and whatever you call him, it’s time to honor and thank him for his presence.
Nothing shows gratitude like a baked good, especially one that is homemade. In honor of Father’s Day, we’ve rounded up five wonderful cookie recipes — that will surely make his day that much more special.
Confetti Whoopie Pies (pictured above)
We all know and love the good, old fashioned whoopie pie, a soft cakey cookie sandwiched together with sweet filing. Kardea’s Confetti Whoopie Pies are a playful twist on the classic — but easier because they use a boxed vanilla cake mix as the base and store-bought marshmallow cream in the simple, homemade filling that holds everything together. These whoopie pies look like a celebration and will hold up all day at your Father’s Day picnic, even though they won’t last long on the table.

For the peanut butter lover in your life, Claire Robinson’s Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies are a homerun. Made with only a few ingredients, this wonderful cookie is great for the truly novice baker in Dad’s life.

All dads love chocolate chip cookies! This recipe from Food Network Kitchen really ups the ante by turning the classic cookie into delectable Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. Easy to pack and transport, these cookie bars are perfect for that Father’s Day picnic — and the dad who loves a cookie bar with crispy edges and a rich, gooey center. Pro tip: Before cutting your homemade treat into bars, pipe a celebratory 'Happy Father’s Day' on top with store-bought (or homemade) royal icing.

Polvorones are always a favorite around the holidays (because they look like little snowballs) but why not bring these sweet, crumbly cookies out for Dad’s special day too? Marcela Valladolid’s Polvorones are simple, delicate — and an easy treat for Dad to sneak a bite of before dinner! That is, unless the confectioners’ sugar gives him away!
To all the father’s out there: Happy Father’s Day!
