Our Best Valentine's Day Cake Recipes

February 14th is one of the most polarizing days of the year. You either swoon at the idea of an entire day dedicated to love—or the thought of a mischievous cherub with a quiver full of arrows makes you cringe. The one thing everyone can agree on, though? Valentine's Day is the perfect time to treat yourself. There's no better Valentine’s Day dessert than cake—which is why we've rounded up fun ideas for every situation. We've got plenty of pink and heart-shaped confections to bake for a loved one, chocolate-and-strawberry treats perfect for sharing with your galentine and even a few cakes to bring you catharsis after a rough break up. One of our favorites for any situation? This twist on a classic red velvet cake. There isn’t as much cocoa powder in a red velvet cake as a chocolate one, but a little goes a long way when the cocoa is bloomed in hot coffee to boost its flavor. Paired with whole strawberries hidden inside the cream cheese filling (so that cute, little hearts will be revealed when the cake is sliced open) it creates the perfect chocolate-and-strawberry flavor combo.

Conversation Heart Cake

Not everyone is a fan of conversation hearts: In a recent poll, more than two-thirds of Food Network fans said they don’t eat them. But this heart is different—it’s a giant cake! To create the supersize sweet, we turned two cakes into a heart shape, then we covered the whole thing in a homemade marshmallow fondant. For the message, you just need food coloring...and something sweet to say!
