Ingredients

2 cups heavy cream, plus an additional 1/2 cup as needed

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups smooth chocolate hazelnut spread

Optional dippers: madeleines, rice cereal treats, strawberries, marshmallows, Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast Sticks, recipe follows

Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast Sticks:

8 slices country white bread

8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

12 medium to large strawberries, hulled and sliced

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature

2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar

Directions

  1. Whisk together the cream and sugar in a medium saucepan over low heat. When the cream is hot but not boiling, add the chocolate chips and gently whisk until combined and smooth. Add the chocolate hazelnut spread to the cream mixture and whisk until smooth. Serve immediately with your desired dippers. If the fondue breaks, whisk in a couple of tablespoons of cold heavy cream at a time.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast Sticks:

  1. Preheat a griddle or panini press to medium-low heat.
  2. Lay out the slices of bread on a clean work surface. Spread one side of each slice with the cream cheese. Evenly top four of the slices with the sliced strawberries. Top each with the remaining four bread slices, cream cheese-side down, to make four sandwiches. Spread the outside of each sandwich with the butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.
  3. Place the sandwiches on the griddle or panini press and cook until golden brown and toasted, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Let cool for a few minutes, then slice each sandwich into 4 sticks.
