Almond Boneless Chicken (Warr Shu Gai) — called ABC by native Michiganders — is a dish of deep-fried, crispy boneless chicken topped with a thick, dark brown mushroom gravy, with crushed almonds and scallions on a bed of iceberg lettuce. Although it’s unclear where exactly the dish originated, it has been a staple on most Chinese food menus in southeastern Michigan for decades. A stellar place to grab the dish is Hong Hua. The restaurant serves both Americanized dishes and many authentic Chinese dishes tough to find elsewhere.
