Brother Juniper's Restaurant

1 Reviews

With one of the best breakfasts in Memphis, Tenn., Brother Juniper's has been serving up hearty dishes including waffles, omelets and baked goods made from scratch since the 1960s. Rachael recommends the open-faced San Diegan Omelet with cheesy grits and the bakery's special 5 grain struan bread.

Neely's Interstate Barbecue

2 Reviews

Pat and Gina bring their authentic barbecue to New York City with Neely's Barbecue Parlor. The space is elegant yet homey, much like a traditional Southern home. You'll find plenty of barbecue, as well as fried-green tomatoes, fried pickles, cedar-plank salmon and award-worthy fried chicken.

Salvation Cafe Restaurant & Bar

Adorned with thrift shop finds from the Salvation Army next door, Salvation Cafe is the place to be for an eclectic meal and drinks, all for the right price. The quirky menu ranges from Indian and Asian to Mexican and Spanish cuisines, and favorites include the Chocolate Banana Purses and Pad Thai.

Rhumbline Restaurant & Bar

"Rhumb line" is a nautical term for sailing in a straight line across the globe. Rachael sailed right toward the hidden Newport, R.I., eatery for its affordable Sunday brunch. Housed in a historic building over 200 years old, the restaurant also serves dinner with a mix of entrees from land and sea.

Signe's Heaven Bound Bakery & Cafe

For more than 40 years, Signe's Heaven Bound Bakery and Café has been the go-to place for delicious pastries and down-home comfort food in Hilton Head, S.C. When Rachael visited on $40 a Day, she was blown away by Signe Gardo's signature Blackberry French Toast, calling it ''amazing.''

Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks

When Rachael couldn't decide on what to have at Hudson's on the Docks on $40 a Day, she found the perfect dish — the Can't Decide, a plate with five appetizers, including oysters rockefeller, oysters hudson, scallops, crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms. Try the hush puppies, a local favorite.

The Old Fort Pub

What better way to admire the sunset at Hilton Head, S.C., than with a sunset martini from the Old Fort Pub? When Rachael tried this beautiful drink on $40 a Day, she thought it was ''heaven.'' This tavern is also well known for its she-crab soup, which many consider the best soup in the area.

Middleton Place Plantation

Set among historic stables, homes and gardens, the Middleton Place Restaurant serves traditional Southern fare in an upscale dining setting. The restaurant uses ingredients grown on the plantation, like the Carolina gold rice Bobby tried, in addition to local seafood and seasonal vegetables.

Joseph's Restaurant

Rachael Ray pops into Joseph's Restaurant, in Charleston, SC, for some sweet potato pancakes with toasted pecan butter on Food Network's $40 a Day.

For authentic low-country cooking like okra gumbo, visit Jestine's Kitchen. Owner Dana Berlin says "this is the place that local yokels come to eat" and drink sweet tea, or what she calls "Jestine's table wine." Rachael loved the low-country feast, exclaiming: "It's fantastic food. What a treat!"

The Sea Shack

1 Reviews

On $40 a Day, Rachael called The Sea Shack one of the best kept secrets of Hilton Head, S.C., and it’s easy to see why — almost all of the fish and seafood is caught locally. One specialty is the Jerk Grouper, complete with hush puppies and a side of black-bean chutney.
