Diners, Drive-Ins and Dogs

Hot diggity dog! It's cookout season, and no other food represents it better than the hot dog. And Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host Guy Fieri is an expert on the summer table, having gobbled up some of the most glorious glizzies for more than 50 seasons.

Kick off with a Coney Dog at Gordy's Hi-Hat in Cloquet, Minnesota. That mouthwatering chili on top hides an even more delicious secret: a deep-fried dog for the crispiest Coney in town.

Sea Wolf Tybee — Tybee Island, GA: The Glizzy

Over at Sea Wolf Tybee on Tybee Island in Georgia, they're doing a dog that Guy lovingly called an "elevated chili dog." If you can fit this beefy, beefy, beer-boiled dog into your mouth, you're in for a ride. Topped off with smoky chili and zippy, chorizo-spiced crema, Guy loved this "hot mess" enough to ask for a bowl of chili on the side.

The Wienery — Minneapolis, MN: Mr. Sunshine Dog

You can take the dog out of Chicago, but you can't take the Chicago out of the dog. The Wienery in Minneapolis is slingin' sport peppers and neon green relish, but there's another taste of Chicago that got Guy to come back for a second visit: the giardiniera dog. Perched on top of a boiled all-beef, the iconic crunchy relish shines through in a big bite of the Windy City.

Garbo's Grill — Key West, FL: The Kogi Dog

Operating out of an old-school-cool aluminum trailer, Garbo's Grill has been a Key West fixture since 2010. Their Kogi Dog weighs in at a modest quarter pound, but that's before it's topped off with their housemade kimchi, sesame mayo, citrus soy dressing and, of course, fried cheese.

The Coffee Cup — Boulder City, CO: Chili Dog Burrito

Is there a better way to kick off a new TV series than with a chili dog breakfast burrito? The Coffee Cup was one of the first restaurants that Guy visited on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, all the way back in Season 1. Wake up to a butterflied hot dog and french fries, covered in chili and wrapped in a warm tortilla. It's the most important meal of the day, after all.

Hillbilly Hot Dogs — Lesage, WV: The Spank'n Bacon Hillbilly Harlot

Home of the 15-inch Homewrecker Hot Dog and their own wedding chapel, Hillbilly Hot Dogs doesn't play around when it comes to sausage in Lesage. Despite the name, the Hillbilly Harlot is a much more modest dog. Wrapped in crispy bacon and dressed with a sweet-and-spicy jambalaya sauce, this one had Guy come to a full stop mid-sentence for another big bite.

Foothills Grange — Asheville, NC: The Spiral Dog

Owners Amanda and Casey McKissik started off with a butcher shop, and now they're bringing farm-to-table meals to Asheville at Foothills Grange, starting with their scratch-made hot dogs. Grinding their own beef and pork blend seven times for ideal texture, the dogs hit the smoker for a few hours before being corkscrew-cut and deep-fried in beef tallow.
